MXS CONCEPT – MX Simulator France // P2sta Interview ( English Version)
P2sta Interview ( English Version)
Hello P2STA, even if lot of people already know about you, can you present yourself in couple of words (age,location,hobbies,..) to the french/belgium community?
Hey guys! Yeah, i think most of you already know who I’m, but for those who don’t….I’m Zbyněk from Czech Republic, currently 26 years old. My hobbies are bikes, 3D modeling and music.
How and when did you start skinning,modeling,.. for mx simulator?
It was about 2009 when i was playing REV mod for MVA and i wanted to do a model for it, it was my first experience with lowpoly/game modeling. I did a 661 helmet, which looked horrible and then i started my first bike model. On the rev forum i found out there is a game called Mx simulator. I downloaded the demo and tried the game. I uninstalled it right after the test because it was way too hard for me and it looked horrible compared to mva. Later i got on the mxs forum and found out a bit more about mxs and the possibilities users have with the models here.
So i continued my bike model, which i planed to get into mxs as my first real game model, sadly it was taking too long so i started new projects (rider, helmets, etc.). That was the start of my mxs creations. I finished a highpoly model of few years later and its the RMZ you may know from my render. Sadly i didn’t manage to do a game version yet, which was my original plan. Hehe
Lot of people don’t realize how long is the process to create content for this game, can you tell us how many hours it takes to make a 3d bike models from scratch to the public release?
Yeah, if you want to do a proper game model it takes a lot of time and energy. Of course it depends on how much skills the creator has and how much details he wants to cover on the model. I’m pretty slow at creating models, one of the reasons is that i want everything perfect and I’m able to spend 5 hours staring at pictures of a bike part before i create it and realize it is not even visible on the bike most of the time. It may take more than 100 hours to do a proper bike model if you really want to do it correctly for a guy like me. But there are definitely guys who can work faster.
We can see you helping a lot of people on the jlv forum, but what can be the main tips you would tell to someone wanna start modeling?
Take your time, don’t rush anything. Nowadays it is way easier to get into modeling because of youtube and tutorials all over the internet. Start with simple things and get to more complex stuff like bikes. Lots of people on the forum think they can just get Blender and make a bike without any experience in modeling at all. That’s almost impossible and they just give up because it’s too hard for them.
So biggest tip from me is to take your time and take it easy.
You are working right now on a new rider model, whats gonna change compared to “p2sta 3 rider model” ?
Yeah, that’s true. Well the current (p2sta3) rider is just an edit of the rider model DDMX made in 2008, so the new rider is going to be made from sketch.
For actual changes….first of all pants are going higher, actual visible human parts are going to be separate on the model (neck and arms). His pose is going to change a little as well.
And I plan on a highpoly rider for normal map bakes, which should help do to a nice looking wrinkles and folds on the gear.
Sadly all is limited with the current bone structure mxs has. We will see how all the changes are going to work when i get the model in the game.
If there’s a thing you would love to see jlv made for this game in a near future, what would be?
As I’m not really riding in mxs, I don’t care much about the gameplay. So for me it is mostly graphics changes. Dynamic shadows and map based reflections for starters.
I would also love to see a better rider bone structure for the game so the rider doesn’t look that stiff on the bike.
You have worked on Kawasaki bike model along with JVDL, can gamers expect a release someday or its not planned?
You are right, John is no longer active around mxs so it is hard to tell. He made the template which is the thing people want to be released, so it is up to him. I spoke with him few months ago about that, and he said he may release it in the future, but is not sure.
You’ve got some awesome skills in skinning, modeling, rendering. this can be interesting for “real” companies, have you ever been asked/contacted to make work for them?
Thank you! Well I started a business in computer graphics few months back and i work mostly on architecture visualizations for architecture companies in our country. I also do renders for Primal X and MotoStar, which you may know do graphics for real bikes.
Any big project you wanna start in the next few month?
I’m not sure, i would like to do some bike again, but i think it is going to be a highpoly model again, i will see if i will be motivated enough to make a game model from it.
But for mxs. i’m currently working on two helmet models and the rider, so some of it may be released in new few months.
Do you wanna say something as a last word?
